Monday 20th May 2013 was a red-letter day for the village of Dafen. The famous theatre, film and television star, Ruth Madoc, came to unveil one of Llanelli Community Heritage's Blue Plaques.

At 11 o'clock, precisely on time, her car arrived in New Road, opposite Aston House, where a crowd of approximately 50 people waited to greet the guest of the day. Ruth made herself at home, wandering about, chatting to all who had come to see her. Smiles were certainly the 'order of the day' as she chatted with young and old alike.

LCH Vice Chairman, Lyn John, started the proceedings by formally introducing Ruth to the people that had come to enjoy the event. After a short account about LCH's work in and around the town, our other guest of the day, Councillor Tegwen Devichand, welcomed Ruth to the village on behalf of the people of Dafen.

Ruth Madoc, star of many film, stage and television productions, then spoke about Dorothy Squires' life and stage career. She impressed on everyone the international importance that Squires held. It is evident that Ruth Madoc has a wealth of knowledge about the world famous diva, rightly qualifying her to play the role of Squires in her life story, 'Say it With Flowers'.

After the plaque, sponsored by Sir Roger Moore, was unveiled, Ruth mixed with one and all to have photographs taken.

Say it With Flowers is on at Llanelli's newest theatre, The Ffwrnes, on Friday 14th & Saturday 15th June at 7.30pm at. If the revues are anything to go by, it is a 'must see'.

Llanelli Community Heritage is very grateful to Ruth Madoc for taking the time to come to our town and unveil a plaque to a great icon of show business.

Many thanks to Daniel Vaughan for contributing to the photos.
