Francis Dunn Blue Plaque Unveiling
On Saturday morning the 21st March 2015 at precisely 1130, Surgeon Lt. Commander Louisa Morris, RN., unveiled a Blue Plaque marking the site of the home of Petty Officer Francis Dunn in Heol Fawr, Glanmor Road, Llanelli.Francis Dunn was the Caulker's Mate of HMS Erubus, one of the ships of the ill-fated Franklin Expedition that had sailed off to the Arctic in 1845, one hundred and seventy years ago in search of the North West Passage.
Mr Dennis Morgan, Chairman of the Llanelli Branch of the Royal Naval Association presided over the ceremony accompanied by Lyn John, Vice Chair of Llanelli Community Heritage, who gave a brief history into the background of the Blue Plaque, while a sense of dignity was brought to the event by the Rev David Payne, who read The Naval Prayer.
Uniformed members of the Sea Cadet Corps from T.S. Echo, Llanelli, provided a nautical touch to the bright sunny morning which was witnessed by members of the Royal Naval Association Llanelli, Llanelli Community Community Heritage and the general public.
The Blue Plaque was sponsored by the Llanelli Branch of the RNA.
