We formally unveiled the blue plaque commemorating Rachel Roberts, stage and film actress, on Tuesday, 7th November 2017 when we were lucky enough to have the actress Sharon Morgan to do the honours.

We always try to get an “unveiler” who is in some way connected to or takes a particular interest in the object of the plaque. Sharon spent her early life in Llandyfaelog and said that since childhood she had watched and admired Rachel Roberts’ acting career and had decided to follow in her footsteps. “Rachel had an unhappy life in many ways but she was a great actress and meant a great deal to me,” said Sharon.

Llanelli Town Mayor Councillor Jeff Edmonds and Deputy Mayor Councillor Louvain Roberts (no relation) attended the unveiling in Tyisha Road, which took place in a thankfully dry interval between showers, and the event was filmed by local television channel S4C.

Llanellli Community Heritage afterwards entertained Sharon, guests and members to a light buffet lunch at the White Lion in Felinfoel.

I was brought up in Llandyfaelog. My father Bernard Morgan was the head teacher of the Primary school. I went to the Queen Elizabeth Grammar school for girls at Carmarthen before gaining a degree in History at Cardiff University. I have worked extensively in film television theatre and radio since beginning my career in 1970 in England and Wales. Odette in Grand Slam and Martha in Martha Jac a Sianco are two of the parts I've played that audiences have loved and I've won three BAFTA Cymru best actress awards- for Martha Jac a Sianco, Tair Chwaer and Resistance.

I have appeared on Pobl y Cwm, Casualty, Coronation Street, Doctors, Mine All Mine, Mind To Kill, Midsomer Murders, Torchwood, Da Vinci's Demons, and Holby City as well as numerous Welsh language series such as Rhandirmwyn, Teliffant, Anest, Pris y Farchnad, Llafur Cariad, Tair Chwaer, Darn o Dir and 35 Diwrnod. My films include Gadael Lenin, Love is Thicker Than Water, Y Syrcas, and Under Milk Wood.
