The "Downton Abbey" of Llanelli
One of the greatest mysteries in the history of Llanelli is the reason why the Stepney estate, centred on Llanelly House, passed from the Stepney family to a succession of apparently unrelated people. This recorded talk examines why the colourful Sir John Stepney, a former MP and ambassador, bequeathed his estate in the way he did, and how it eventually came into the possession of William Chambers and then John Stepney Cowell, the two men most responsible for creating the modern town of Llanelli.
