Stephen Lyons
tepShen was born in London but brought up in North Wales from the age of two. In 1970 he attended the Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff before embarking on a career as an actor. He became a Voice-over in 1980, giving up the stage in 1983, after performing as Abanazer at the New Theatre, Cardiff and TV acting in 1993. His voice is heard across the world in almost every conceivable voice application. Stephen is the official biographer of Llanelli's Gareth Hughes, the first Welsh film star and regards the research of Welsh media people as a professional hobby. In 2000 he organised the unveiling of the bronze plaque to Gareth's memory at Parc Howard Museum, where he maintains a display of Gareth Hughes memorabilia. His Gareth Hughes web site has been recognised by the National Library of Wales and the British Library as being an important part of Wales's documentary heritage and included in the UK Web Archive. He also organised the Blue Plaque to the memory of Eleanor Daniels in October 2011 in Thomas Street.
Stephen spent much of the World War One centenary researching the history of the 130th (St John) Field Ambulance, which was a part of the 38th Welsh Division. He also researches local mining and social history in the Risca area, gives talks and writes biographies for the Dictionary of Welsh Biography (an entity of the National Library of Wales).
Stephen lives at Cwmcarn, Gwent with his wife, former Welsh actress Helen Cleaves, with whom he founded the Black Vein Miners Memorial Society.
