Dr. Roscoe Howells, former Director of Scientific Services for Welsh Water, gave a fascinating and informative lecture with regard to the state of the water supply in 19th. century Llanelli.
Roscoe talked of the horrors of cholera, the complacency of the town's trustees, the huge cost of fresh water at the time (80p for 2 gallons) and the struggle to get the plentiful supplies of quality water we enjoy today. He however warned of the necessity to consider the current needs of an expanding population and the ever present spectre of continuing suffering in the third world.
